What are the responsibilities and job description for the Land Director, Camp Grady Spruce position at YMCA OF METROPOLITAN DALLAS?
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direct supervision of the Resident Camp Director, he/she is responsible for is responsible for supervision of all specialty staff and development of specialty curriculum for all activities. Food and lodging is provided during the resident care of campers and/or program delivery. The staff at all times is representative of the philosophy, mission and goals of the YMCA and its Camping Program. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with the Resident Camp Director and fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES / POSITION RESPONSIBILITY:
The Land Activity Director will be responsible for all programming on land. They will be responsible for organizing campers and staff into their morning activities. This will need to be done at the beginning of each week before Monday morning activities begin. They should keep up with activities and help staff maintain quality of programming on land. They are to mentor counselors on how to effectively foster new skills with our campers. Will help train staff to assure the highest of quality in land programming. Responsible for transporting needed equipment to program areas. They will have the assistance of the rest of ad staff for developing EPs, but the responsibility lies primarily with the Land Activity Director.
Will report accidents and incidents to camp director. They must report broken and needed equipment to the Camp Director. They are responsible for the quality of activities and the curriculum of those activities. They are responsible for overseeing the cleanup of activities and program areas. Will take responsibility for the proper use, care and storage of all camp equipment. Will maintain a neat appearance; wearing an appropriate staff shirt during opening and closing day. Will attend all staff training, in-services and meetings. Will read and review Camp Staff Manual. Responsible for following all policy and guidelines. All camp staff will at all times have the opportunity to meet with the Camp Director and/or Program Director to discuss any problems, needs or concerns he/she may have.
The Land Director will also supervise the Ropes and Arts directors. The Land director will ensure that their programs have the needed supplies, maintain a high level of programming and ensure that skills are being developed.
Will assist in ad staff duties including, but not limited to: Developing evening programs, overseeing staff and campers, assisting during meal times, assisting during chapel times, keeping the rest of ad staff updated on day-to-day events, evaluating staff, and working with the Program Director to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone who comes to Camp Grady Spruce. All ad staff must work one weekend.
