The Regional Director of the Safety Around Water (SAW) Program will lead a life-saving outreach swimming program aimed at eliminating childhood drowning, one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in children. This role is critical in ensuring the program reaches underserved communities, teaches vital water safety skills, and empowers families to stay safe around water. The Regional Director will drive program success through strategic partnerships, staff development, community engagement, and advocacy, ensuring every child has access to this impactful initiative.
Program Leadership
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with local Aquatic Directors and branch leaders.
- Educate YMCA teams and community partners on the SAW program’s benefits and goals.
- Provide regular updates and ideas during Aquatics Leadership Team meetings and other forums.
- Represent the program at conferences and community events to stay updated on best practices and raise program visibility.
Staffing and Team Management
- Recruit, hire, train, and oversee SAW staff across multiple YMCA branches.
- Publish staff schedules in advance and ensure staffing aligns with safety standards.
- Organize team-building activities and training sessions to foster staff development and morale.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
- Build and strengthen relationships with local schools, businesses, and organizations to promote water safety.
- Assist in coordinating and attending community events that showcase the SAW program.
- Develop materials and presentations to educate potential community partners about SAW’s impact.
- Track and monitor the success of partnerships and report findings to stakeholders.
Site and Safety Oversight
- Conduct regular site visits to ensure adherence to safety protocols and program standards.
- Develop and utilize audit tools to evaluate site operations and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor and assess data collection efforts to ensure accurate reporting and accountability.
Financial and Fundraising Management
- Collaborate with the development team to support fundraising initiatives and secure funding for SAW programs.
- Create and manage program budgets, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines.
- Oversee grant management, including reporting requirements and deadlines.
Marketing and Outreach
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the SAW program.
- Share impactful stories and testimonials from program participants and staff to highlight SAW’s success.
- Ensure all materials comply with YMCA branding and communication guidelines.
