The Teen Engagement Specialist supports the YMCA’s mission by developing, implementing, and leading programs that engage teens in positive youth development activities. This role focuses on building relationships, fostering leadership, promoting academic and career success, and creating a safe and inclusive space for teens.

Essential Functions

  • Facilitate a specialty activity for YMCA participants.
  • Creates an energizing, fun, safe, and educational environment for specialty activities, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Asks and answers questions from program participants and members.
  • Maintains working knowledge of specialty area to provide effective information and support to participants.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Keeps accurate records of participant attendance.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Certifications: ASHI Basic Life Support (ASHI CPR Pro), First Aid.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working in specialty area.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Will require outdoor work during the summer months. May be required to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be available to work Monday-Saturday from 4-9pm
