What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Day Camp Counselor (PaWaPi) position at YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing?

The YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing is looking for energetic, organized, and dependable Camp Counselors for the Summer 2025 Camp Season at Camp PaWaPi (Williamston).
As part of the Y's camp program, the Camp Counselors are responsible for nurturing, interacting with, supporting, and creating a safe and inclusive environment in which staff and campers have a fun-filled, exciting camp experience. This position is active from May through August.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a positive attitude at all times and act in a professional manner when interacting with members, program participants, and other staff.
- Understand and follow all Michigan camp licensing rules and procedures for school-age programs.
- Continuously monitor children within your group and provide constructive and positive reinforcement when necessary.
- Follow the proper discipline protocol when necessary.
- Report member and guest comments, suggestions, complaints, concerns, and problems to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of one years’ experience working with children in a group setting and creating and implementing lesson plans.
- Must demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication.
- Outgoing, friendly, and enthusiastic personality. Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance as well as constructive feedback.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Must be CPR and First Aid certified prior to the beginning of camp (paid by the Y).
- Completion of YMCA trainings within a required time frame.

Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 39 per week
