What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Day Camp Site Leader (Parkwood Y) position at YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing?

The YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing is looking for energetic, organized, and dependable Camp Site Leaders for the Summer 2025 Camp Season at the Parkwood Y (East Lansing).
As part of the Y's camp program, the Camp Site Leaders are responsible for taking an assistant lead role in the day-to-day administration/operation of the camp location. Nurture, interact, support, and create a safe and inclusive environment in which staff and campers have a fun-filled, exciting camp experience. This position is active from May through August.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a positive attitude at all times and act in a professional manner when interacting with members, program participants, and other staff.
- Understand and follow all Michigan camp licensing rules and procedures for school-age programs.
- Daily supervision of camp counselors and their management of campers, Monday-Friday.
- Manage daily communication with parents (excluding disciplinary actions and management of accounts).
- Responsible for daily opening and closing the camp.
- Handle camp’s social media accounts including picture taking and announcements when needed.
- Monitor all camp aides throughout the day.
- Act as a back-up for camp counselor
- Oversee and maintain cleanliness of camp and program areas daily.
- Assist in leading pre-camp training and onboarding of staff.
- Report member and guest comments, suggestions, complaints, concerns, and problems to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of two years’ experience working with children and understanding of day-to-day operation of an active camp.
- Must have experience working with youth in a group setting and creating and implementing lesson plans.
- Must demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication.
- Outgoing, friendly, and enthusiastic personality. Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance as well as constructive feedback.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Must be CPR and First Aid certified prior to the beginning of camp (paid by the Y).
- (Camp PaWaPi only) Must be canoe-safety and lifeguard certified.
- Completion of YMCA trainings within a required time frame.

Expected hours: 35 – 39 per week
