POSITION SUMMARY :

The YMCA of Newark and Vicinity is seeking a Mentorship Program Coordinator responsible for overall administration of the National YMCA's Reach and Rise Mentoring Program offered at the YMCA of Newark & Vicinity. The Reach & Rise group mentoring experience will provide diverse, highly trained adult mentors to help youth succeed in life through group mentoring relationships and therapeutic activities. Groups will focus on positive relationship building (with adults and peers) and skill development. Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, The Reach and Rise Program Coordinator is responsible for ongoing development, implementation, and supervision of the Mentoring Programs at the Newark YMCA. The position serves as the clinical mind and is responsible for establishing the Reach and Rise Program Models by recruiting, training, supervising and matching volunteers and ensure uniformity of training curriculum, data collection, outcome objectives, and ongoing clinical support. The position is responsible to ensure compliance with all aspects of the grant and the partnership agreement with the Y-USA. The YMCA's recruitment process includes comprehensive background check and upon hire, extensive training.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Ensure program quality for mentors and mentees including organizing weekly group activities as well as supporting the one-on-one mentoring structure for mentors / mentees. Group activities will include core YMCA teen programming including Leader's club, Youth and Government, Model UN, and other international related programming.
  • Monitor group activities and document outcomes according to the OJJDC guidelines outlined in the grant.
  • Complete all required paperwork per the partnership agreement and as specified by the OJJDP grant requirements.
  • Provide accurate, timely completion and submission of all mentor / mentee - related records.
  • Ensure that mentors are thoroughly vetted and cleared through our HR volunteer process.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and implement the mentee growth plans, utilizing various intervention methods and techniques.
  • Assist the Sr. Program Director with the program budget an managing the grant.
  • Assis the Sr. Program Director with messaging, marketing, and brokering linkages to all available YMCA resources (e.g., facilities, human resources, risk management, volunteers, etc.).
  • Ensure Compliance with the legal standards for mandated reporting.
  • Work with all YMCA partners to ensure positive and consistent relationship.
  • Attend all required training as required by the YMCA of the USA. Travel to Y USA in Chicago, IL to attend at least one training and orientation session.
  • Maintain ongoing outreach to recruit new mentors including local businesses and foundations.
  • Maintain annual caseload outlined by funder.
  • Supervise other Reach and Rise staff as assigned including volunteers / intern / MSW interns.
  • Manage all mentor / volunteer recognition and incentive initiatives.
  • Attend regular meetings with volunteers, families, and with staff from schools and / or community-based organizations as needed.
  • Recruit up to 35 mentors for the 1 : 1 Mentoring Program for the year and ensure that a min. of 25 are consistently meeting with mentees. Create Mentee training plans and facilitate all required trainings.
  • Recruit up to 35 mentees for the year and ensure that a min. of 25 remain active. Provide case management and counseling to students.
  • Manage (2) weekly groups (2 hours each session) process for 16 weeks in duration for Fall and Spring (21st century).
  • Manage (1) weekly groups (2 hours each session) process for 8 weeks in duration for Summer.
  • Support all mentor / mentee interactions that operate off site and at mentor's place of business. Support mentee trainings in professionalism and ethical behavior.
  • Organize planned "mentee to workdays" and community service days.
  • Provide input as to how the Reach and Rise Mentoring Programs can better reflect the cultural diversity of the children and families in the respective YMCA regions.
  • Participate in all required internal and external work-related meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in webinar trainings, conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities to stay current in the field.
  • Travel between program sites.
  • Ensure all program related operations are consistent with the Association's procedures. This includes safety, insurance, incident / accident reports, registrations, purchasing, HR and Payroll procedures, accounting, and maintain appropriate logs and records.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions and ensure cleanliness of facility.
  • Provide excellent customer service and care for all including but not limited to internal and external customers / members / residents / visitors / clients / patrons / vendors / suppliers / members of public / volunteers / staff.
  • Demonstrate and model the YMCA's four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Perform such other job-related duties as may be periodically assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to the Association.
  • Cooperate; work effectively and congenially with all YMCA staff members, volunteers, and members of the Association.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master's degree in Social Work. Or, pending MSW graduate. SIFI certification and MSW State Licensing is a plus but not required.
  • Strong skills in managing and following intensive protocol for matching mentors & mentees adding a matching process for peers.
  • Strong written and oral communication and the ability to effectively deliver services through a variety of systems.
  • Ability to attend a comprehensive 5 week 18-hour mentor training curriculum including group curriculum, group management and facilitation.
  • Familiarity and experience working with target population.
  • Familiarity and experience working in or with community-based agencies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (word and excel) and experience with data entry.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills and experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects required.
  • Must have strong attention to details.
  • Conflict resolution and excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and produce results with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds
  • Knowledge of case management techniques and processes
  • Excellent human relation skills.
  • Experience implementing and delivering a program by following specific program model, curriculum and guidelines
  • Valid Driver's License and a safe driving record.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).

    Work Schedule : Monday through Friday 10 : 00am to 6 : 00pm, subject to change as needed. Some evenings and Saturdays for Training or Special Events.
