Description
The Water Fitness Instructor provides leadership, instruction and motivation for participants in water fitness classes. The classes are designed to provide cardiovascular fitness, muscular-skeleton development and opportunities for social interaction and fellowship.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Leads class in total body fitness workout in deep or shallow water in accordance with YMCA guidelines
Maintains a safe environment for class
Reports incidents to a lifeguard or higher authority; completes incident and accident reports as necessary
Organizes and puts away class equipment. Reports damaged equipment
Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages involvement and identifies potential volunteers
Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers participants to other programs
Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, evaluations, etc.)
Attends staff meetings and training as scheduled
Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures and pool rules
Qualifications
Water fitness or group fitness certification preferred
At least 16 years of age
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certification preferred or obtain within 30 days of hire
Swimming experience required
Desire to work with individuals of all ages and fitness levels
Strong organizational, verbal, written and customer service skills
Willingness and ability to obtain any and all YMCA Instructor certifications within 90 days of hire or the next available training session.
