POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Camping Service and Leadership team the Day Camp Coordinator facilitates the daily camp operations to ensure campers have a memorable, safe, and impactful experience. This is a management position required to train, supervise and support camp staff. They will earn valuable experience not only as a care giver but as a leader. Coordinators develop skills in communication, attention to detail, teamwork, leadership, workplace flexibility, experience in healthcare and overall professionalism. The work of a coordinator is to create a fun, safe environment that enriches lives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- To do what is necessary to create a safe and positive experience for others
- Guide and direct a camper group in a variety of camp activities
- Attended and assist in the facilitation of staff training and staff meetings
- Manage staff to implement a program that creates a welcoming and positive experience for all
- Be a professional role model for your campers and fellow staff
- Interpret, practice, train in and supervise safety and health regulations set by state, ACA and camp policy. In addition to making safety conscious decisions
- Plan, prepare and facilitate activities and events including theme weeks, assemblies, and Camp traditions
- Provide strong communication to staff and campers
- Has the comfort to lead in programs and activities included but not limited to high adventure, teambuilding, low ropes, archery, crafts, and aquatics etc.
- Assist with inventory and upkeep of activity equipment. Work with director team to replenish supplies when necessary
- Assist with set up and take down of activities
- Ensure each program area has all necessary equipment and supplies before activities begin
- Meet with Program instructors daily to ensure they know expectations/assignments
- Work with directors to ensure each program area has written instructions of each day’s program
- Perform or confirm the proper safety checks and practices are done daily at each program
- Complete documentation, daily notes and end of the summer report for your position
- Have a rainy-day plan for each activity area and be prepared to implement as needed
- Provide regular feedback to staff, both positive and constructive through evaluation and check ins
- Assume and active role to incorporate nature, conservation and earth awareness
- Promote youth development and skill progression
- Complete the expectations of the area of coordinating assigned
- Assist in emergency procedures
- Must be committed to carrying out the basic team purpose of Camp Westwood and the Pawtucket YMCA and the four core values of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility
- Inform the Camp Director of any camper or staff problems, issues, or concerns.
- Correct and document, as necessary, situations that endanger the emotional or physical safety of any person.
- Complete or submit requests for repairs for any equipment and keep an inventory of all supplies
- Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
- Current or willing to obtain Lifeguard certification and First Aid and CPR
- Experience with high ropes and challenge courses
- Basic computer skills
- Previous experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: high adventure, team building, outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, or recreational games.
- Criminal Background check
- Like children and have the ability to work with them and to understand their needs 8. Good moral character
Physical Requirements:
- Running and playing with children
- Ability to swim and perform necessary waterfront rescues
- Ability to climb to significant height
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Handle exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and carry/or assist children us to 50 pounds in weight
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
