Job Overview:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, responsible, and dedicated Camp Counselor to join our summer camp team. As a Camp Counselor, you will work directly with children to create a safe, fun, and educational environment, while ensuring they enjoy the summer camp experience. You will be responsible for supervising and guiding children in a variety of activities, implementing camp curriculum, and maintaining safety protocols throughout the camp day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at the camp at all times. This includes monitoring and guiding campers in all activities, managing behavior, and ensuring that safety guidelines are followed.
- Implementing Curriculum: Lead and assist in the implementation of the camp's daily curriculum, including arts and crafts, sports, team-building activities, and nature-based education. Engage campers in these activities, providing direction, support, and encouragement.
- Positive Role Modeling: Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating good behavior, teamwork, and respect. Foster an inclusive and supportive camp culture.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with campers, fellow staff members, and parents. Provide updates on campers' progress and any issues that arise.
- Conflict Resolution: Address any conflicts between campers with patience and professionalism, ensuring a peaceful and cooperative environment.
- Health and Wellness: Monitor campers' physical and emotional health, and report any concerns to camp leadership. Ensure that campers follow proper health and hygiene protocols, including managing allergies and medication needs.
- Camp Activities: Participate in planning and executing special camp events, field trips, and group activities.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other counselors and camp staff to ensure smooth operation of the camp, including assisting with setting up activities, cleaning up after events, and supporting each other as needed.
- Documentation: Accurately complete daily camper reports and any required paperwork, such as incident reports or health logs.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older by the start of the camp season.
- Ability to commit to the full 8-9 week camp season (Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts).
- Must attend mandatory pre-camp training sessions (dates to be provided).
- Must successfully pass background checks and fingerprint clearance.
- Must have the ability to work with children in a camp setting, providing direction, guidance, and emotional support.
- Previous experience working with children, such as babysitting, tutoring, or volunteering, is preferred but not required.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Ability to handle difficult situations with patience, responsibility, and professionalism.
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus (or must be willing to obtain before camp starts).
