Job Title: Swim Lesson Coordinator Job Code: SLC FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Grade: 5 Reports to: Swim Specialist Revision Date: Dec 2025/Part-Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
The incumbent is responsible for managing the Swim lessons Program and to provide a safe and fun environment for instruction. Under the supervision of the Swim Specialist, the Swim Lesson Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that our swim lesson program runs according to best practices using the Y Swim Lesson V6 & Safety Around Water Program curriculums.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with fellow instructors and supervisors; deal courteously and firmly with students and parents and demonstrate good judgment and tact.
- Handle all administration duties associated with the Swim lesson program, including but not limited to reviewing the swim instructor's payroll, managing class scheduling, drafting marketing flyers/materials, updating the website and data entry, and pulling reports for the swim lesson program.
- Carry out the YMCA commitment for the Safety Around Water program curriculum.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures; completes related reports as required.
- Schedules, Subs, and leads in-service training at least 4 times a year.
- Provides the swim lesson instructors the tools they need to succeed, such as progression/attendance sheets, mid-term progression forms, end-of-session certificates according to the YMCA V 6 tool kit, and equipment needed for instructional use.
- Assists with sending out information to schools, homeschool groups, and other organizations for potential participants.
- Implement and maintain an engagement process for growth, communication, and advancement of swim levels.
- Must be available to speak with parents/assist with instructors on the first and last class date for each session along with greeting and welcoming participants to class.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
- Must have one to three years of experience teaching swimming lessons
- Must have certification in CPR /Lifeguard preferred.
- Current YMCA Swim Lesson or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
- Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills
- The Y will certify this Swim Coordinator position as a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor v6. (Within 120 days of hire)
