POSITION SUMMARY:
Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist with leading energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2. Follows the specific YMCA Community Health Program format (EF, MFBB, LIVESTRONG).
3. Offer exercises suited to the population, monitors progression, and offers modifications.
4. Assist with Community Health Program at the YMCA evaluations at the beginning and the end of each cohort.
5. Responsible for knowing how to demonstrate use of all equipment provided in the Wellness Area.
6. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
7. Keeps accurate class attendance records.
8. Responsible for walking around and assisting with correcting form during class.
9. Assist in maintaining equipment and informing Director of any breakage or items needing replacement.
10. Report to work 5 minutes prior to class to prepare for class and ensure proper set up and tear down of class.
11. Responsible for covering their class. The coordinator or Director should approve any substitutes.
12. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED – must have a validated CPR at time of hire or within the first 30 days of working.
2. Upon hire to complete the following E-learnings: Group Ex Certification (ACE-YMCA Foundations of Group Ex.), Listen First Skills, Orientation to Healthy Living at the YMCA, HIPAA, and Introduction to the specific Community Health Program (Enhance Fitness, Moving for Better Balance, Livestrong). These E-learning trainings must be completed within the first 30 days of being hired.
3. Successfully complete the Instructor Certification for the Program to be eligible for instructing the YMCA Programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Ability to conduct classes and activities.
2. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position that includes the following: leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
