What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Counselor(Seasonal) position at YMCA of Superior California?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the summer director, a summer counselor will provide leadership and implementation of the summer program. This includes instruction of children in groups of up to 10-20 children depending on the age group and location. Provide a safe and fun environment for your group. Plan and execute activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Attend all orientation sessions prior to summer program.
· Understand and attend to the needs of children.
· Guide, direct and Participate with your group in activities.
· Develop group cohesiveness.
· Assist in the social, mental, and emotional development of the children using values clarification
techniques.
· Maintain control of the children in your care at all times.
· Responsible for the health and safety of the children under your supervision.
· Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, facilities, and the natural environment.
· Support and Assist other summer personnel in all areas of program operation and development.
· Manage personal time in accordance with summer program policies.
· Maintain standards of conduct.
· All other duties as assigned by your supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school graduate or equivalent
· One year or more of college preferred.
· Previous experience working with children preferably in a summer program setting
· Experience preferred in recreational group activities
· At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law and YMCA policies.)
