ASSOCIATION INFORMATION:
The YMCA of the East Valley is a $25 million organization with over 800 employees and a growing $450,000 Annual Campaign. The service area encompasses most of San Bernardino County, the fifth-most populous county in California and the 14th-most populous in the United States.
The association is comprised of 5 branches: Redlands, Highland, San Bernardino, Licensed Childcare Services, and Camp Edwards, as well as operating over 50 childcare sites. Operations consist of a state funded preschool, 5 swimming pools, a 150 bed Resident camp, youth sports, aquatics programming with a focus on Safety Around Water (SAW), day camp, ASES/ELOP and licensed fee based and state funded childcare, and the famous Great Y Circus.
Under the vision and direction of the CEO and Association Strategic Plan, Executive Directors who are motivated by an environment that encourages innovation, and entrepreneurial leadership will thrive in this association. Executive Directors are expected to be the face of their YMCA in their local communities, leaning into community engagement. Association vision and direction also empowers Executive Directors with local decision making in a decentralized leadership structure, emphasizing ownership and accountability.
SAN BERNARDINO BRANCH
We are looking for the next entrepreneurial servant leader with a heart for serving underserved communities to take our San Bernardino Family YMCA to the next level and further position this Y as a vital partner in the City of San Bernardino community. The branch’s $13.5 million operating budget is approximately 95% childcare government contracts, leaving room for growth and development in other operational areas for our next leader.
The approximately 20,000 square foot facility, which includes an indoor pool, membership health and wellness areas, group exercise studio, an outdoor basketball court, programming spaces, and neighbors the beautiful Perris Hill Park also available for programming space.
The largest childcare provider in the city of San Bernardino and partner to San Bernardino City Unified School District, this Y is not confined to the 20,000 square foot facility, operating ASES and ELOP funded childcare on thirty-four (34) school campuses, serving 5,000 youth each day, and employing over 450 staff. In addition to childcare, operations consist of membership health and wellness, day camp, swim lessons with a focus on Safety Around Water (SAW), youth sports, and various youth and adult classes and community programs.
POSITION GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Executive Director of our San Bernardino Family YMCA (SBY) is responsible for the oversite of all SBY operations and finances. Including, but not limited to program and membership development and oversite, marketing and outreach, facilities and safety, volunteer and staff development, financial development and fundraising ($50,000 growing Annual Campaign), grant management and compliance, government contracts, community relations and engagement, and collaborations with community agencies. Must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous, growth focused and deadline-oriented workplace.
PREFERRED CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATE:
Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; master’s degree preferred. The YMCA Organizational Leader certificate is required within three years from date of hire. Current YMCA leadership certification strongly preferred (Team Leader or Multi-Team Leader).
Experience & Background: 3 years of management experience in childcare and or afterschool programing, preferably in a YMCA or nonprofit setting. 3 years of experience working with children of different ages and knowledge of the developmental stages and needs of youth required. 3 years of progressive people and program leadership experience in the YMCA or another non-profit. Must have the ability to relate to top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, financial development and monitoring of branch budget (primarily government funding and grants), marketing and public relations, and program development. Experience in management and development of volunteer committees or boards; ability to recruit top community leaders. Foundation and government grant management expertise is strongly preferred.
KEY FOCUS AREAS:
· Fiscal Management: Develops, manages, and monitors the branch operating budget and meets or exceeds budget targets. The operating budget is $13.5M and approximately 95% government funded childcare. Responsible for ensuring contractual obligations are fulfilled and maximized.
· Financial Development: Directs the financial development activities of the branch which raised over $50,000 in the 2025 Annual Campaign trending 10% growth annually.
· Board and Volunteer Development: The new Executive Director will lead the re-establishment of local volunteer leadership through the development of a local branch advisory board. Directs the volunteer activities of the branch.
· Program Development: Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and Association mission, goals, and strategies.
· Staff Engagement & Development: Oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of over 15 full-time and 500 part-time staff.
· Facility Quality & Safety: Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
· Planning: Directs the implementation of the association's strategic planning at the local branch level through the development of the tactical branch operating plan annually. Directs branch marketing and communication efforts to ensure enrollment targets are met.
· Partnerships & Community Outreach: Serves as the key spokesperson and chief advocate for the San Bernardino Family YMCA, representing and promoting the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, governmental entities, and partners. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies and school districts in branch service area.
· Association: Serves as a member of YMCA Executive Leadership Team and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA of The East Valley.

Compensation:
· Base Salary: $85,000 - $120,000 annually
