Overview
The EBHI Instructor will be trained to lead a variety of EBHI programs at YMCA branches. The instructor will facilitate and implement the program by delivering the standard curriculum designed for each EBHI program in a meaningful way that uses exploratory facilitation to support participants on their healthy living journey. The Instructor will help guide participants through the completion of the program by teaching proper use of equipment, motivating participants, communicating effectively to participants and YMCA staff, and entering all data into WELLD database in a timely manner.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Personal Trainer will safely design and implement appropriate individual fitness programs for clients. To educate, stimulate, motivate, and promote adherence to a healthy lifestyle. Personal trainers are responsible for educating clients and enforcing policies regarding safe and proper use of equipment. Individuals holding this position must be able to develop, document, and implement one-on-one, partner, or group workout programs that match the needs and goals of clients. This person must be able to instruct clients on basic exercise physiology and inform them of proper lifting and exercise techniques. This person will have knowledge of all fitness floor policies and be able to communicate to a diverse group of patrons why the policies are in place.

Responsibilities
- Instructs the classes in accordance with YMCA and EBHI program guidelines.
- Ability to work with members to address the whole person’s well-being, including spirit, mind and body.
- Perform pre and post assessments of participants for the programs that call for that reporting.
- Emphasize individual ownership of behavior change.
- Become knowledgeable using the WELLD database and enter all information needed for each EBHI program weekly.
- Foster relationships with and between participants.
- Creates a motivating environment that is friendly and non-competitive.
- Facilitates activities, as appropriate, refers adults to other YMCA programs as deemed beneficial.
- Perform additional responsibilities and duties upon request.
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 18 years of age
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have experience in working with adults.
- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills, the ability to build strong relationships with individuals and build community within a group as well as have empathy for health seekers
- Familiar and proficient with Listen First or motivational interviewing preferred, however, training is available upon hire.
- Strong ability to engage those of all ages in physical activity.
- Maintain CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer yearly
- Maintain First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen every 2 years
- Bloodborne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year
- Maintain HIPAA training every year
- Go through the online trainings for EBHI programs
