Description
The salary for this position starts at $16.50 hourly. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.
1. Job Summary :
The Canoe Master Support is responsible to support the mission and strategic goals of YMCA Camps by overseeing all aspects of canoe fleet management, support facility maintenance, and lead program innovation.
2. Essential Functions :
- Manage the canoe shop and all areas related to the maintenance and repairs of the camp's fleet of 100 wooden canoes as well as other canoes that are used for programming.
- Skilled in construction specifically complex wood and canvas canoes, with the understanding that these skills will be acquired and honed over time through practice and experience.
- Collaborate with the Program Directors to execute the canoe programs for summer trail staff and campers.
- Implement paddle building workshops, for involvement with Environmental Education groups, and other programming efforts.
- Assist Property Manager in the overall maintenance of facilities to include carpentry work, interior and exterior finishes, systems monitoring, janitorial responsibilities, and work crew supervision.
- Assist with food service at camp including preparing meals for groups as needed.
- Maintain canoe repair building in conjunction with the Property Manager.
- Actively engage in staff meetings.
- Other camp responsibilities as needed.
3. Relationships :
This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with Program Directors, the Site Manager, alumni, and the Canoe Fleet Management Committee. This role represents the camp to external partners and stakeholders, fostering relationships to enhance camp operations and visibility.?
