This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Specialist will assist the Aquatics Director with the overall planning and development of aquatics programs of the branch.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinates scheduling of aquatics staff to provide proper program delivery.
- Keeps record of aquatics staff certifications and ensure all staff maintain current certifications.
- Maintains records of attendance and monitors payments for each program participant.
- Maintains pools, equipment, and grounds to meet all necessary program and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate and implement marketing and promotions.
- Develops and distributes all program promotional pieces.
- Maintains relationships with vendors and member service with parents and program participants.
- Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff, and follow accident report procedures and policies.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Position requires two years of college or equivalent experience in an aquatics position.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Prior experience or training in staff supervision and management.
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
- Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic
segments of the community - Must be able to word process at 45 wpm and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Maintains records of attendance and monitors payments for each program participant.
- Must become proficient within 30 days in the use of ActiveNet

- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- Visual acuity is required to see and observe all sections of assigned zone or area of responsibility. Must be able to see and recognize aquatic distress above and below the water surface.
- Ability to respond properly to medical emergency is necessary.
- Meet strength and lifting requirements.
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods at a time are required, as well as the ability to hold breath under water when necessary.
- Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.
