Job Description
The Assistant Aquatics Director is responsible for ensuring all participants are provided with activities that promote the social, cultural, educational, physical, and leadership potential of the child. Under the Assistant Directors' supervision, all aquatic classes will be organized and staffed by qualified swim instructors who reflect and support the Mission of the Old Colony Y. The Assistant Aquatics Director will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y, and regulating agency. The Assistant Aquatics Director will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty, and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.
Qualifications
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
- WSI or YMCA Swim Certification required
- Team Leader Certification from Y-USA
- Must acquire and maintain certification with the following and within required timelines : Ellis LG & LGI, YMCA LG & LGI, YSL & YSLI, YMCA Swim Instructor and YMCA Swim Instructor Trainer, YMCA Aquatic Management, and Pool Certification
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience
- Bachelors Degree preferred
- Must be physically able to teach aquatic lessons and lift an adult male from the pool to the pool deck
- Complete program-specific and employee orientation training by required timeline
Essential Functions
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES :
Serve as a liaison between parents, staff and other administrative personnelEffectively program the pool facilities to ensure maximum usage throughout the program yearPrepare marketing information ensuring maximum promotion of the OCYSupervise pool area, locker rooms and swimmers at all timesEnsure that staff members are informing participants about program and pool procedures and enforcing all posted rulesSupervise aquatic events and encourage staff and members to participate in all Old Colony YMCA programs, services and eventsOversee the standardization of student testing for swimming levelsMaintain and oversee the filing of records for allReport all incidents / accidents on proper forms and submit to supervisorImplement a minimum of 2 new programs annuallyCoordinate and facilitate pool usage with all program departmentsTeach swim classes as needed as well as Lifeguard as neededSUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL :
Recruit, hire, train and evaluate aquatic staffRecruit, train and provide leadership for volunteersWear staff uniform and whistle at all times (while guarding) and ensure staff members do so as wellAssign and post staff schedules ensuring adequate coverage of the pool at all timesEnsure that all certifications and in-service training requirements are up to date for all staff and documentation is properly filedFISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, program registration, purchase orders and employee expensesKeep accurate attendance records and class records, checking with membership service before entering new names to rostersParticipate in the Annual Campaign by running at least one fundraising event in the aquatic departmentDevelop annual budget as it pertains to aquaticsManage the aquatic portion of the program budget to meet or exceed the budgeted numbersPromote, recruit and maintain membershipsFACILITY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Properly test water for chemical balance and record at assigned times (inform maintenance staff of chemical level problems)Check all safety equipment, reporting any problems in writing to supervisorProperly open and close pool as scheduledEnsure security and safety of pool area, never leaving area unattended or unlocked, check all doors and windowsEnsure cleanliness of pool areas daily, hosing deck, brushing down walls, cleaning staff office, putting equipment away in storage closet neatly, inspecting pool area and reporting all problems in writing to supervisor. Assign various jobs to staff and postCOMMITTEE AND COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Participate in annual campaignPromote Y programs through public appearances and presentationsINTERDIVISIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Attend Aquatic Affinity meetingsInstruct a minimum of 2 Ellis Lifeguard Training classes in the fiscal yearYmca Careers
