What are the responsibilities and job description for the Association Director of Before and After School position at YMCA?
Under the direction of the Vice President of Youth Development, the Association Director of Before & After School will act as the expert in out-of-school time programming for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. This position is responsible for providing leadership to the Youth Development Team in the areas of program quality, safety, and the daily operations of the YMCA’s Before & After School program. The Association Director of Before & After School is responsible for seeking additional funding opportunities and managing the budget to ensure financial stability of the Before & After School program.
This position requires a BA/BS degree in child development, recreation, elementary education or related field and 4-5 years related experience. Applicant must have proven management and programming skills with special emphasis on youth, teen and family activities and volunteer recruitment/training. The ability to relate to all age groups is essential. Experience with grant writing, coaching, compliance, program quality, and program development is also important. The need exists to be current with community trends. College education and previous experience with the YMCA or a similar agency is vital to the success in this position.
Due to the diversity of responsibility, a high degree of organizational ability is needed. Strong skills are necessary in supervision, management, income production, expense control, public relations, promotion, communication skills, and record-keeping. Additionally, strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making skills is required.
- Serve as the Association expert in the field of Before & After School programming, including researching current trends and implementing high quality and consistent program curriculum.
- Research and seek out opportunities for additional Before & After School funding sources.
- Manage program budget, including meeting income targets and expense control.
- Ensure Youth Development programs follow all grant requirements through ongoing communication and monitoring.
- Assist in developing systems/measurements that gauge program impact, satisfaction, quality trends, financial stability, and growth potential.
- Assist with high level program concerns or issues, including participant behavior management, parent/guardian relationships, and school personnel relationships.
- Complete all required reports related to any Youth Development grants.
- Create and implement staff training program resulting in safe and high quality programs.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to Youth Development leadership team members.
- Ensure training and development program allows YD programs to maintain compliance with state regulations.
- Coordinate and plan for growth of Before & After School programming, including implementing marketing and communication plans.
- Coordinate and facilitate completion of the Program Quality Assessment (PQA) for Before & After School programs.
- Provide and coordinate on-site support and coaching to address program quality and compliance issues for Before & After School programs.
- Evaluate programs and recommend changes based on compatibility with center and association goals.
- Collect and analyze data and implement action plans based on family/school feedback.
- Data collection/management for impact statistics.
- Assist with performance evaluations, at least on a bi-annual basis, of department personnel.
- Provide leadership to and guide Program Directors in developing a plan to meet or exceed annual campaign goals through direct solicitation and special events, as well as training staff on best practices in fundraising.
- Work closely with Human Resources departments to ensure quality recruitment, onboarding, and training process with staff.
