SUMMARY: Under the direction of the President/CEO, the Vice President of Operations provides administrative leadership for a designated district of the Central Coast YMCA. In this role, the incumbent leads a staff management team to conduct and expand programs and services that help children and families in the district live healthier and more fulfilling lives. District goals will be met by ensuring strong program development and delivery, creating an engaged membership base, giving attention to fiscal management, developing, and involving local volunteers, developing an effective staff team, supporting local annual support campaigns, and maximizing resources for the greatest efficiencies. This position will oversee property and facility projects for the entire Central Coast YMCA. This position will evaluate and maintain risk management for the association. Central Coast YMCA policies and bylaws perform all functions.
POSITION SCOPE
- This position directly supervises a leadership team of four executive directors and oversees a staff team of up to twenty-five employees.
- This position recruits, supports, and involves policy and fundraising volunteers in local communities within the association.
- This is an exempt position that requires a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the position. Some early morning, night, and weekend hours are expected.
- This position requires weekly travel between various program locations throughout the association. It is expected that the Senior Vice President of Operations will be physically present in each major program center within the association when needed.

The Vice President of Operations leads the efforts in the region to maximize the YMCA’s mission impact in the community. This will be measured by:
- More people will become involved in YMCA programs and services throughout the district.
- Volunteers, staff, members, and program participants will understand the purpose of the YMCA and report that the YMCA has made a positive impact on their lives.
- Revenue will increase through increased participation in new and existing programs.

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in management or related field from a four-year college or technical school; five years related experience in management, fundraising, work with policy-making volunteers, fiscal management, and administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Outstanding human relations skills are essential for this position, as is a clear understanding of the principle that the YMCA is a partnership of volunteers and staff working together to achieve mutually agreed-upon goals.

Language Skills: Must have:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
1. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
- Create the overall vision and lead the development and delivery of new and existing programs for increased participation to bring about maximum YMCA mission effectiveness in the community.
- Identify local community needs, develop local partnerships, and enhance local relationships to support program growth and effectiveness (with senior leadership).
- Increase program revenue through a focus on new program development, high quality, effective pricing, and excellent member service.
- Ensure that program outcomes, quality, and quantity evaluations are conducted annually and used to improve services within the region.
2. FISCAL MANAGEMENT
- Work with the Central Coast YMCA finance department to develop the annual district operating budgets.
- Work with the management team to manage all operations within budgeted revenue and expense.
- Drive revenue growth through membership and program development.
- Identify, recruit, and orient community-based volunteers for the Board of Managers.
- Serve as staff officer to the local Board of Managers and appropriate Committees or Task Forces.
- Oversee the development of volunteer leadership for local communities by engaging community members in meaningful work as policy, fundraising, and program volunteers (with senior leadership).
4. HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
- Oversee recruitment, selection, orientation, training, supervision, and recognition for all directly supervised staff and work with managers to create an effective regional staff team.
- Conduct regular 1-to-1 supervisory meetings with all staff supervised, setting up and monitoring the accomplishment of staff performance standards.
- Work with Central Coast YMCA Human Resource representatives to conduct employment policies and procedures for all regional staff members.
- Support the annual Community Giving Campaign in local communities, as most appropriate for the association.
- Set and meet goals for volunteer recruitment and fundraising.
- Work with the Central Coast YMCA financial development department to identify local grant prospects and strategize for presenting a compelling case for contributions.
6. MEMBER SATISFACTION
- Ensure that YMCA members, program participants, and guests have an elevated level of satisfaction with their Y programs and services.
- Manage the completion of member/program evaluations to measure satisfaction.
7. FACILITY MANAGEMENT
- Operate all YMCA facilities in a clean, welcoming, and safe manner.
- Manage all Central Coast YMCA properties & facilities to best meet YMCA program needs. Develop partnerships to expand program locations as needed.

- Serve as an active member of the Central Coast YMCA Executive Cabinet; attends and gives leadership to association and regional staff meetings as appropriate.
