Job Description
The Government Grants Writer will play a vital role in securing and managing public funding to support the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles's evidence-based programs and initiatives, with a particular focus on the Center for Community Well-Being (CCWB). This position will lead the full grant cycle for federal, state, and local government funding opportunities, including research, proposal development, submission, and reporting. The role requires exceptional writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex programs and evidence-based outcomes into compelling narratives that align with government funding priorities. The Grants Writer will work closely with program staff and the evaluation team to effectively communicate program impact through data-driven results and evidence-based practices, ensuring strong alignment with government funding requirements for proven interventions and measurable outcomes.
Qualifications
Related Experience : Minimum of four (4 ) years of experience in government grant writing with demonstrated success in securing federal, state, and / or local government funding. Experience with social services, youth development, or community health grants preferred.Immunizations & Physical : TB Test clearance.Specialized Skills :
Exceptional writing and editing skills with attention to detailStrong knowledge of government funding processes and compliance requirementsExperience with grants.gov and other government grant portalsProficiency in budget development and financial reportingStrong project management and organizational skillsAbility to translate program outcomes into measurable deliverables
Knowledge of HIPAA, data privacy, and research ethics requirements.Essential Functions
GRANT DEVELOPMENT & MANAGEMENT
Prospect Research :
Monitor federal, state, and local funding opportunitiesResearch and evaluate grant opportunities for alignment with YMCA programsTrack grant deadlines and requirementsMaintain database of government funding opportunities
Proposal Development :
Write compelling grant proposals that align with government requirementsCoordinate with program staff to gather necessary informationDevelop program budgets in collaboration with Finance teamEnsure compliance with all application requirementsManage proposal submission process and timeline
Grant Management :
Track active grants and reporting deadlinesCoordinate with program staff to gather performance dataWrite and submit required progress reportsEnsure compliance with grant requirementsMaintain organized grant files and documentation
Relationship Management :
Serve as liaison with government funding agenciesCoordinate with program staff on grant implementationBuild relationships with government agency staffParticipate in technical assistance sessions and bidders' conferences
Quality Control :
Develop and maintain grant writing standards and templatesEnsure accuracy of all submitted materialsTrack success rates and maintain grant performance metricsDocument best practices and lessons learned
TEAM COLLABORATION & DEVELOPMENT
Cross-Department Coordination :
