Summary: The job of the District Childcare Director is established for the purposes of providing effective leadership and direction to deliver positive outcomes for district child care programs; providing information and recommendations to parents and families; design child care program plans; oversee daily child care center activities; and assist in preparing budgets.
Qualifications/Education:
- 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- At Least One of the Following is REQUIRED:
- 12 semester hours of college credit in early childhood AND 6 months’ teaching experience in licensed center or preschool
- Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) AND 1 year teaching experience in licensed center or preschool or supervised practicum
- AA or 2-year certificate in child development AND 1 year teaching experience in licensed center or preschool or supervised practicum
- BA or BS in child development or early childhood education including a practicum AND 3 months teaching experience in licensed center or preschool
- BA or BS in related field plus 12 hours of college credit in early childhood AND 6 months’ teaching experience in licensed center or preschool
- Working knowledge of child care center regulations
- Engaging interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills
Supervisory Responsibilities: Childcare Providers within district
Essential Functions:
- Ensure that children are safe and that their everyday needs are met – this may include diapering, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Engage in positive interaction with children to build confidence and self-esteem.
- Ensure children are kept active, entertained, and engaged in developmental activities.
- Effectively discipline children who are misbehaving.
- Plan and oversee daily schedules.
- Model and encourage good social skills, e.g. strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Monitor and report developmental or safety concerns.
General Responsibilities:
- Coordinate child enrollment with families and district
- Maintain staff-to-child ratios as determined by KDHE
- Manage child fee collection
- Maintain record of staff licensing and training requirements
- Market the facility including open child care slots
- Keep parents up to date on child’s development, progress, and behavior
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Constant bending, twisting, lifting, pushing, and pulling
- Constantly alternating between sitting and standing
- Normally does not lift objects weighing more than 50lbs
Terms of Employment: Classified Personnel position, 12-month contract, 40-hour work week. Does not require a teaching or administrative certificate. Salary to be determined by Board of Education. Payment range: $13-$15/hour.
