Job Summary:
The Construction Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive mechanical cost estimates for various construction projects. This position requires a thorough understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping, as well as excellent analytical skills to evaluate project specifications and requirements. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure accurate budgeting and project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to determine mechanical system requirements and scope.
- Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical components such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other systems.
- Develop and maintain cost databases and estimating tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency in the bidding process.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to review design details and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors to obtain quotes, work scope clarifications, and pricing information.
- Participate in bid reviews and project kick-off meetings, providing insights on mechanical costs and potential issues.
- Monitor industry trends, materials, labor costs, and construction techniques to ensure competitive estimating.
- Assist in value engineering exercises as needed to optimize project costs while maintaining quality standards.
- Prepare and present estimates and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
- Track and analyze project performance against estimates, providing insights for improvements in accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience (3-5 years) as a Mechanical Estimator in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., [list any specific software used, e.g., Sage, Bluebeam, PlanGrid]).
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in estimating.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certification (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator, LEED accreditation) is a plus.
- Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Experience with project management software is a plus.
Pay range: Annual salary range: $80K -$100k
