Job Description:
Summer Programs Counselor positions available at York Country Day School June 2, 2025- August 8, 2025. It will be a flexible work schedule of no more than 29 hours per week between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm, Monday through Friday, with a beginning hourly rate of $12. Responsibilities include assisting the program director and summer program supervisors with summer instruction for students in grades preschool through grade 6. Patience, reliability, flexibility, enthusiasm and experience working with elementary-age children are a must. High School diploma, at least 18 years old, and experience working with elementary-age children is required.

Outcome:
The Summer Program Counselor will manage daily activities for a safe and fun environment for all participants. Monitoring and managing participants that range from preschool through grade 6. The Summer Program Counselor will follow the summer program schedule and will be responsible for the safety of participants at all times. Summer counselors will communicate needs and issues with the supervisor as needed. Summer counselors should be available June 2- August 8, 2025.
- Have the ability to lead and maintain a classroom group of summer participants preschool through grade 6
- Counselors are responsible for the safety and well-being of all participants
- Counselors must be trustworthy, punctual, and able to follow and enforce rules and guidelines
- Ensure sites cleanliness by guiding participants through daily routines and cleanup tasks
- Follow safety and emergency procedures and guidelines
- Curb undesired behaviors by keep children engaged in activities
- Ensure that the program spaces is kept clean and is left in the same clean condition
- Encourage appropriate social interactions that promotes teamwork and togetherness
- Have the ability to easily and positively communicate to children and fellow counselors
- Be able to problem solve and appropriately deal with situations that arise and successfully defuse conflict
- Communicate needs and issues with supervisors and Director
- Lead participants in various indoor and outdoor activities
Must be 18 years of age or older
High school diploma or equivalent; some post-secondary education preferred
Prior experience attending or working at a summer camp preferred
Experience working with children
Physical ability to assist campers in classroom and outdoor activities
Classroom or classroom-equivalent experience with elementary aged children preferred
Demonstrated capability in planning, organizing and executing activities
Strong communication skills
Ability to organize, create and lead a variety of recreational activities
Knowledge of camp counselor techniques for effectively working with participants and fellow counselors preferred
Sound decision maker in regards to making appropriate and safe decisions
Ability to focus on a single task, transition quickly and multitask as needed
Lifeguard certification is a plus
