Description
Job Summary:
The Fleet Manager is responsible for all activities related to movement of freight from the plant and warehouses to the customers by any means of transportation. The Fleet Manager is also responsible to ensure that the company and its drivers are in full compliance as outlined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR). In addition, the Director of Logistics is tasked as the Safety Manager for the fleet.
Essential Job Functions:
- Directs all activities related to tracking transportation vehicles.
- Completes investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
- Develop and implement schedule and policy changes.
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure that policies and procedures meet the companies’ goals.
- Monitors operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
- Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
- Develop criteria, application instructions, procedural manuals, and contracts for federal and state public transportation programs.
- Monitors spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
- Directs activities of staff performing repairs and maintenance to equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
- Conducts investigations in cooperation with government agencies to determine causes of transportation accidents and to improve safety procedures.
- Analyzes expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
- Negotiates and authorizes contracts with equipment and materials suppliers, and monitors contract fulfillment.
- Sets operations policies and standards, including determination of safety procedures for the handling of Cargo.
- Recommends or authorizes capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment to increase efficiency and services of operations department.
- Negotiate rates and tariff increases with Common Carriers, Truck load Carriers, and Freight Brokers.
- Participates in union contract negotiations and settlements of grievances.

Other Functions:

- Assists workers assigning tariff classifications and preparing billings.
- On Board Computers and Scanners troubleshooting and repairs.
- Drivers ride along evaluations .
- Maintains Driver Qualification files as described in the FMCSR.
- Schedules Drivers DOT Physicals.
- Schedules Random Drug and Alcohol testing. The employee is also expected to perform such other duties and functions as required and assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree desired.
- Knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Understands the Hours of Service under the FMCSA.
- Part 40 Drug and Alcohol Testing programs.
- A valid, current driver’s license with a CDL Class A certification preferred.
