Corrugator Operator

Description

Essential Job Functions:

• Continually monitors quality of board.
• Inspects product visually and with measuring tools.
• Monitors output and adjusts machine with communication to maintain product quality.
• Maintains and reports operating and quality records.
• Checks all machinery for mechanical soundness and makes sure all safety features are in good working condition and reports all unsafe conditions to supervisor.
• Administration of the different waste categories
• Maintains at all times the machine at expected housekeeping standards.
• Cross-trains to learn other corrugator functions.
• Follows all safety rules and procedures.
• Assists other departments and/or areas when requested by management/supervisor.
• Troubleshoots when operating issues on machine occur.
• Trains other team members to pass on knowledge & expertise.
• Checks basis weight and width of roll stock before placing it on roll stands.
• Sets glue dams for running correct width.
• Sets correct adjustment on pressure roll and corrugating rolls.
• Checks glue pattern on roll changes and adjust as needed.
• Continually maintains web lineup.
• Ensures correct glue level for proper pickup to applicator roll.
• Cleans out slots (corrugator rolls and glue rolls) as needed.
• Sets up next flute change, well in advance, if possible
• When changing flutes has new web on bridge ready to thread up
• Assists Operator as needed to avoid down-time.
• Continually monitors quality of check board coming from single facer.
• Checks all machinery for mechanical soundness and makes sure all safety features are in good working condition and reports all unsafe conditions to supervisor.
• Prepares roll stock for running with as little waste as possible.
• In charge of peeling rolls (minimum peel)
• Administration of the different waste categories
• Responsible for reporting temperature and viscosity daily
• Checks production line-up to ensure proper paper is supplied for the various runs; checks computer for correct order to start.
• Pushes start button when ready to run, then speeds up to run speed.
• Checks and ensures that there are no manufacturing defects.
• Throughout run, monitors product for accuracy and quality; ensures take-off delivery runs efficiently (this includes directions and instructions being given to take-off persons).  Assists at take-off when problems occur.
• When orders line up and arrives at machine, checks to determine which orders should run at top or bottom knife.
• Accurately inputs the line-up of each schedule into the DECC (dry end cell controller).
• Ensures that any required additions (i.e., sesame tape, wet strength adhesive or x300) are present.
• Communicates to single face operator any defects materializing on board being run (i.e.. Blisters forming on surface of paper).
• Monitors production by checking digital read out panel.
• Signals single face operator when paper changes are required.
• Ensures Key Quality Characteristics are verified and recorded on the hard copy.
• When order is completed, initiates order changes by making the required adjustments to the machine.  Records information on the production report, speed graph, downtime report and roll report and enters into the computer.
• Takes immediate action to separate and record all non-conforming product.
• Special Set-Up Procedures for Preprinted Outside Liner.
• Ensures order is centered on slitter system.
• Ensures the proper cut to mark on preprint.
• Ensures reinforcing tape inserts are positioned according to specs, if needed.
• Thoroughly runs, monitors such adjustments as tape insertion, registration, length of cut and makes adjustments as required to ensure quality and uniformity of product for next operation.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent; up to two (2) years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Good interpersonal & communication skills
• Highly organized, detail orientated and self-motivated individual (proactive attitude)
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment, learn quickly and follow established processes.
• Good mathematical skills - understand basic algebra, able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, volume etc. (add and subtract numbers, multiply and divide by 10’s and 100’s …)
• Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and on-going communications about safety and quality issues.

Machines/Tools/Equipment:

• Corrugator, Flexo’s, Flat Bed Die Cutters, Rotary Die Cutters, Joiners, Printing experience is a preferred
• Steel toe shoes or boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection must be worn at all times. 
• No jewelry is permitted on the shop floor.
• BHS Corrugator
• Small tools and Apparatus:  Utility knife, measuring tape, air gun, pen, load tags, calculator, broom etc.

Pay

• $19.00-$25.00 per hour

Schedule

• 12/10/8 hour shifts
• Overnight Shift
• Holidays
• Monday to Friday
• Overtime
• Weekends as needed
