Job Summary:
The Used Car Buyer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing quality used vehicles to expand our inventory and meet customer demand. This role requires strong negotiation skills, market knowledge, and the ability to accurately assess vehicle condition and value. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a proven track record in used car acquisition.
Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Acquisition:
- Proactively source and acquire used vehicles through various channels, including auctions, private sellers, and trade-ins.
- Attend auctions and evaluate vehicles for purchase, ensuring alignment with dealership inventory needs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with private sellers and other sources to secure quality vehicles.
- Vehicle Evaluation:
- Conduct thorough inspections of used vehicles to assess their condition, history, and market value.
- Utilize industry tools and resources to determine accurate vehicle valuations.
- Document vehicle condition and any necessary repairs or reconditioning.
- Negotiation and Purchasing:
- Negotiate purchase prices with sellers to maximize profitability and inventory turnover.
- Prepare and process purchase paperwork, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Manage and track vehicle acquisition costs and expenses.
- Market Analysis:
- Stay informed about current market trends, pricing, and inventory levels.
- Analyze market data to identify profitable purchasing opportunities.
- Provide insights and recommendations to the Used Car Manager regarding inventory strategy.
- Inventory Management:
- Coordinate with the service and reconditioning departments to ensure timely vehicle preparation.
- Maintain accurate records of purchased vehicles and inventory.
- Work with the sales team to ensure the preowned lot has the correct inventory to meet customer demand.
- Customer Service:
- Treat all customers with respect, whether they are selling a vehicle, or inquiring about the process.
- Maintain professional relationships with vendors and sellers.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Used Car Buyer or in a related automotive sales/acquisition role.
- Strong knowledge of used car market trends, pricing, and valuation.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to accurately assess vehicle condition and identify potential issues.
- Proficient in using industry tools and software for vehicle valuation and inventory management.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- CDJR experience is a plus.
