ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Program Manager, Technology Support Services is responsible for effective operation providing technical and user support for the development, implementation, operation and maintenance of the automated systems and related applications, networks and voice/data communications that support the Department; provides staff instruction and training on the use of this technology, and participates in technology projects related to mandated systems.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
• Provides system administration support for Department applications (configuration support, security/user administration).
• Identifies and specifies integration opportunities (process/data integration).
• Provides technical support for the operation and maintenance of hardware, software, technology infrastructure within the Department in accordance with Federal, Provincial, Regional, and Departmental policies and procedures.
• Assists with the development of technical training materials and user documentation, participates in the preparation of presentations and acts as the presenter, as directed.
• Develops and maintains documentation, forms, reports and queries within existing applications, and for the installation of new software.
• Informs management of changing technology environments and advises on its implications; regularly reviews technical literature regarding system methodologies, development productivity tools and techniques.
• Provides input to management for the planning process as it relates to technology type assets.
• Provides input on recommendations for, and implementation of, future information systems to enhance Branch productivity.
• Liaises with ITS Branch and Department staff to ensure application database integrity and security.
• Participates on a multi-disciplinary team; provides contributions to strategic plans, implementation plans and ongoing support of information systems and automation initiatives within the Department.
• Participates in performance metrics planning activities as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Computer Sciences or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience with responsibilities for computer systems technical end-user support, database and network administration and computer configuration tasks.
• Experience in computer systems development processes using databases and programming languages, including MS Access, Visual Basic and SQL.
• Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
• Demonstrated knowledge of networking concepts (LAN/WAN), Client-Server application architecture, and MS SQL Server.
• Demonstrated knowledge of IBM-compatible PC configurations, components, communication and functions.
• Demonstrated understanding of the role of technology as an enabler to business practices.
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
• Demonstrated problem solving skills to develop creative solutions to complex technology problems.
