POSITION: Bus Driver

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: 182 days

HOURS: As Assigned by the Director of Transportation

SALARY: As Set by the Board of School Trustees

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED. CDL License. Drivers shall comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles on the highways of the State of Indiana. Sound human relations skills.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Transportation

EVALUATED BY: Director of Transportation

Essential Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned

a. Adheres to posted speed zones.

b. Adheres to all safety regulations published by the State of Indiana and the School Corporation.

c. Adheres to drop-off and pick-up times established by each building principal.

d. Does not leave buses unattended with engines running.

e. Is responsible for maintaining proper discipline and control on the school bus.

f. Sets a positive example for students by demonstrating appropriate dress, language, conduct, and courtesy.

g. Adheres to the YCS “No Tobacco Policy” on the bus or on school grounds.

h. Makes every effort to keep buses clean and well maintained.

i. Reports any repair or maintenance needs to the Transportation Director.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The driver supervises students while they are riding the bus.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, and employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. The ability to compute rate, ratio / percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff. The ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. The ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee frequently required required to walk. Occasionally, the employee is required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

Occasionally, the individual must meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and other workers. At times, the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of other people. The employee often must meet multiple demands from several people.

The noise level in the work environment is usually of moderate levels, but occasionally will be loud.
