Position Summary
The Applications Engineer works with inside customer service, design engineering, plant operations and outside sales and representatives to provide specification review, cost estimating, proposal development, project management and field service support.
Responsibilities
- The Applications Engineer spends about 35% of their time as Project Engineer for all Industrial Gas Turbine custom sales orders, including developing and maintaining a project folder with all project information:
- Customer contacts and communications
- Customer specifications
- Application checklist
- Valve sizing calculations
- Actuator sizing calculations
- Engineering workload estimates
- Project schedule
- The Applications Engineer spends about 35% of their time as the lead engineer for all Industrial Gas Turbine custom sales orders. Custom sales orders are those products that the company has not previously built, but comprise standard parts and/or standard, commercially available components. With the exception of actuator fail-safe springs, skid assemblies and mounting brackets, no component design is required. This effort includes:
- Primary technical contact with customer.
- Perform appropriate sizing calculations for actuators, valves and hydraulic controls.
- Prepare specifications for purchased components including valves, springs, servos, LVDTs, etc
- Ensure adherence to all applicable safety standards and codes.
- Responsible for ensuring proper packaging of components in the end assembly.
- The Applications Engineer spends about 20% of their time as the primary technical resource to support Industrial Gas Turbine Sales. This includes:
- Daily review of the sales quote database and weekly review of proposals for technical accuracy.
- Perform engineering calculations to support current or proposed customer applications.
- Travel, as needed, to customer sites to support products and applications.
- Provide technical input to establish standard product lines.
- The Applications Engineer spends about 10% of their time performing sustaining engineering functions. This includes:
- Support production related issues of standard products as assigned by the engineering manager or the sustaining engineer.
- Act as the engineer of record on ECNs as assigned by the engineering manager or the sustaining engineer.
- This position requires either a US Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-US person who is eligible to obtain required export authorization.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Mechanical Engineering
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with a strength in communicating technical information to clients.
- Experience in engineering design, development or test
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to travel as required, typically 1 week per month.
- This position requires either a US Person (as defined in applicable export regulations) or a non-US person who is eligible to obtain required export authorization.
