Service Writer / Advisor
The Marine/RV service writer is responsible directing activities of boat & RV repair service, according to knowledge of RV, small craft, and marine safety requirements. Confers with owner of vessel to obtain maintenance history and details concerning condition of craft or RV. Works with technician to repair and and send bills to customer. Estimates cost of repairs according to familiarity with labor and materials requirements or fee schedule. Directs, supervises, and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repairing, painting, and otherwise restoring vessels to proper operating condition.
2 years as a service writing experience preferred.
PAY RANGE: Paid hourly
Skills:
- Ability to supervise staff (technicians and lot porters) and model positive behavior, organize and maintain work flow, provide effective leadership, and exercise independent critical judgment.
- Excellent customer service skills and communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced work environment, work with little supervision
- High level of computer skills and proficient email correspondence.
- Order and maintain stock of parts for service department.
- Working knowledge of RV as well as boat and jet ski operation and repairs.
Environment:
- Indoor/Outdoor environment. Will be exposed to extreme high/low temperatures depending on the time of year.
Hours of work:
- Expected to work long hours on any day of the week during peak season. Off on Sundays, rotational on Saturdays.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires a moderate to high level of physical activity.
- May be required to occasionally lift items of up to 75lbs.
- Requires moderate computer use.
1. Leadership
· Effectively lead and engage staff, conveying to them their importance to the overall success of the company.
· Support and execute Operations Manager’s decisions.
· Provide regular and frequent feedback to Operations Manager on a weekly basis.
· Able to work with little to no supervision.
2. Operations
· Responsible for helping maintain records concerning financial transactions.
· Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
· Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts.
· Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
· Participate in budget preparation and administration, coordinating purchasing and documentation and monitoring departmental expenditures.
· Inspect, test, and measure completed work, using devices such as hand tools or gauges to verify conformance to standards or repair requirements.
· Keep detailed craft maintenance records. Ensure watercraft receive proper maintenance based on manufacturers’ guidelines. Report all damage to your supervisor.
· Conduct routine examination of safety equipment and keep detailed records.
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment reflective of company standards and goals.
· Compute estimates and actual cost factors such as materials, labor and/or outside contractors.
· Review, evaluate, accept, and coordinate completion of work bid from contractors.
· Advise customers and/or insurance adjusters as to necessary repairs.
· Ensure all warranty work is completed according to manufacturer’s and YHWS guidelines.
· Maintain YHWS tools in good condition and according to guidelines.

· Responsible for communicating with management and all other employees who work in conjunction with the Service Department.

· Required to sign employee handbook and familiarize yourself with company policies.
5. Teaching and supervision
· Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies.
· Monitor employees’ work levels and review work performance.
· Assist in the coordination of new programs for your location.

Pay: $35,000.00 - $46,000.00 per year
