Seasonal Grounds Technician

Summary:

The Seasonal Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, and safety of outdoor spaces. This role involves landscaping, grounds keeping, and minor maintenance tasks to ensure that the property remains well-kept throughout the season. The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, and enjoys working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Note: This is a seasonal position with employment duration based on business needs (usually 6 months)

Essential Functions:

· Perform routine landscaping tasks, including mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, and mulching.

· Maintain lawns, flower beds, and shrubbery through watering, fertilizing, and weeding.

· Operate and maintain grounds keeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and hand tools.

· Assist with seasonal duties such as leaf removal, snow removal, or storm cleanup as needed.

· Ensure walkways, parking areas, and other outdoor spaces are free from debris and hazards.

· Perform basic maintenance on outdoor fixtures.

· Water and maintain indoor plants and plant beds.

· Follow all safety protocols and procedures while using equipment and handling materials.

· Report on any property damage, safety concerns, or repairs needed to the appropriate supervisor.

· Support other maintenance and grounds keeping staff as needed.

· Other tasks as deemed necessary by supervisor.

Skills & Qualifications:

· Knowledge of basic landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques.

· Ability to safely operate and maintain lawn care equipment.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Good physical stamina and ability to perform labor-intensive tasks in varying weather conditions.

· Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to follow instructions.

· Strong work ethic and dependability.

Preferred Education and Experience:

· Prior experience in landscaping, grounds keeping, or outdoor maintenance.

· Familiarity with irrigation systems, basic horticulture, or turf management.

· Experience operating and maintaining small machinery and landscaping tools.

Required Education and Experience:

· High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

· A combination of education, training, and hands-on experience may be considered in place of          formal education.

· Previous experience in a physically demanding outdoor role is a plus but not required.

Work Conditions:

· Work is primarily outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.

· Requires lifting, bending, kneeling, and prolonged periods of standing or walking.

· May require occasional weekend or evening work based on seasonal demands.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates in an outdoor setting. The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to machinery. Exposure to various outdoor elements such as dust, animals, and plants is common.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This position requires the incumbent to be physically present at the assigned worksite. The regular schedule is typically based on seasonal demands and may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Employees are also expected to work at least one non-convention farm event a year and to work at the annual company convention. Exact hour requirements can be reasonably modified as necessary for the business needs by the employee’s manager.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move items up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
