What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kent Family YMCA Group Exercise Instructor position at Young Men's Christian Association of the Chesapeake, Inc?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Group exercise instructors will instruct group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
3. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications and any other additional trainings required within 30 days of hire. National certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
· YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 90 days of hire.
· Certification in areas of expertise.
· At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
· Reliable and timely.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Ability to conduct classes and activities.
· Ability to lift 45 pounds.
· Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
