What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kent Family YMCA Water Aerobics Instructor position at Young Men's Christian Association of the Chesapeake, Inc?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
3. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
4. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
5. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, Emergency Oxygen. Must be lifeguard certified. National certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
· Certification in area of expertise.
· YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 90 days of hire.
· Reliable and timely.
· At least one year of experience water fitness classes preferred.
· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Must be able to lift 45 pounds.
