This position is seasonal and will last from mid-May until early September.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Head Guard, working as part of the Aquatics team, will deliver world-class customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment at the YMCA. The Head Guard will be responsible for assisting the Aquatic Manager/Director with daily operations of the aquatic department along with guarding the pool and assuring a safe and clean aquatic environment for members and guests. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Always maintain pool safety; guard using YMCA approved techniques and procedures including dismissing participants for disruptive behaviors
- Trained and available to teach swimming lessons, water exercise classes
- Perform as pool operator, responsible for pool maintenance and reports
- Assist with supervision of guard and swim instructors
- Perform chemical checks; wear protective gear when handling biohazard materials
- Report all accidents and incidents to supervisor immediately using proper forms
- Remain current on all Lifeguard certifications including CPR, First Aid, other certification training
- Educate participants on pool rules and enforce rules as required
- Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA annual support campaign, and general procedures and policies, including personnel guidelines, facility access procedures, membership policies, and emergency plans

Qualifications & Benefits
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 18 years of age
- YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles within 6 months of hire or an action plan in place
- Listen First within 6 months of hire or an action plan in place
- CPR/AED and First Aid within 30 days of hire
- Strong communication and listening skills are required
