The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently accepting applications for Summer Camp Counselors - Childcare.
Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Child Care and Summer Camp Site Coordinator, the Summer Camp Counselor – Childcare provides direct supervision of a group of campers in the Childcare Summer Camp Program. The Summer Camp Counselor – Childcare will ensure a safe and engaging environment where youth can interact and participate in age-appropriate activities, following the guidelines set by the YMCA, DCF Licensing, and the American Camp Association.
Other functions include to assist in planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities that will provide our campers with a diverse and enriching camp experience.
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise a group of up to 10 campers and be responsible for their safety and well-being at all times. Ensure campers are monitored and engaged in activities at all times, in collaboration with other counselors.
- Plan, organize, and implement daily activities for campers that are age-appropriate and aligned with the program’s goals.
- Provide a positive, supportive, and engaging environment where campers feel safe and encouraged to participate.
- Foster a sense of community and teamwork among campers and fellow counselors.
- Maintain open communication with campers, parents, and staff, addressing any concerns or issues that arise during the camp day.
- Monitor campers' behavior, resolving conflicts and addressing any issues in a fair and respectful manner.
- Assist in the setup, cleanup, and maintenance of camp activities and areas.
- Ensure that all YMCA policies, safety procedures, and protocols are followed.
- Model positive behaviors, professionalism, and the values of the YMCA in all interactions with children, parents, and staff.
- Assist in daily check-ins and check-outs of campers, ensuring proper sign-in/sign-out procedures are followed.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
Hours: Monday-Friday; 8:30am to 4:15pm
June 30th – August 22nd
Pay: $15.50/hour

Requirements
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a camp or educational setting
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Must possess energy, enthusiasm, and patience in working with children
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Ability to engage and inspire children in a variety of activities
- Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment, including outdoor activities
