Summary of Position
The class works under immediate supervision and requires some knowledge of after school program operations in order to monitor activities of students and to assist other after school program staff. Incumbents monitor students and assist in organizing and conducting individual and/or group activity sessions.
Position Information
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 50% -Provides assistance to academic leaders and program providers in the instruction of curriculum; Engages students with hands on activities; interacts with students; participates in activities. Assists in promoting positive communication and successes of the 21st Century Project; Attends staff meetings, all afterschool programs, professional developments and trainings as necessary. Writes and implements activities to support youth development and family engagement.
20% -Works with colleagues, parents and community partners to meet the students' individual needs.
20% -Fills program provider gaps in scheduling with educational hands on activities that correlate with youth development and family engagement; takes attendance daily; assist in snack/meal time tally requirements- prepares snack area; provides assistance to students in utilizing computers and District programs. Acts as chaperone during field trips.
10% -Serves as role model, mentor and advocate for students; provides resources to help support the after school programs as needed. Communicates effectively with parents and after school program staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Equipment Operated:Computer and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule:16 to 20 hours per week as scheduled 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. M - F. Schedule may vary based on the needs of the students.

Qualifications And Competencies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: rules, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to curriculum and after school programs; safety practices pertaining to student activities; childhood development.
Skill in: written and verbal communication.
Ability to: develop and maintain good rapport and communication with students, family members, and after school program staff; carry out simple instructions; recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; read short sentences with concrete vocabulary; complete routine forms; cooperate with co-workers on projects.
Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GED; experience in teaching assistance or working with children in a structured setting. Experience in multiple virtual platforms used to instruct children.
