Summary of Position
This position entails coordinating services at the Resch Academic Success Center, specifically within Accessibility Services. The position of Accessibility Services will play a vital role in addressing the increasing demand for accommodations and support among students, ensuring equitable access and fostering an inclusive campus environment. This position involves overseeing departmental operations, case management, and student staff supervision, particularly in the absence of the Associate Director, to maintain high service standards and compliance with the ADA and relevant regulations. The position will collaborate on operational processes, manage key projects such as exam proctoring and note-taking software implementation, and deliver workshops to enhance awareness of accessibility issues. By providing timely, personalized support and strategic initiatives that promote universal design, the position will significantly improve student experiences and contribute to a culture of inclusivity at the university.
Position Information
Resch Academic Success Center- Academic Coaching Duties: Offer personalized one-on-one support to students, focusing on academic assistance, assessing their needs, and conducting weekly follow-ups. This involves helping students develop individualized educational goal plans, making referrals, tracking progress, identify best study strategies for the individual student and maintaining detailed records for each student served.
Provides input into assigned area’s policies and procedures as it relates to completion of work and/or provision of services.
Prepares reports and other information/documentation to assist the supervisor in strategic planning of the assigned area.
Collaborates with Center staff to develop and present workshops, programming, and services for the Resch Academic Success Center.
Participates in campus events and disseminates information to promote the Resch Academic Success Center.
Collaborates with Center personnel to identify, serve, and monitor any YSU student requesting assistance. Monitors referrals and academic progress through communication with faculty and staff and through regularly scheduled meetings with students served.
Prepares retention reports on population served and makes recommendations for appropriate intervention. Creates individual mid-semester and final reports for referral source. Accessibility Services: Assist the Associate Director with the workload related to departmental oversight, case management, and student staff supervision is substantial. The proposed position will ensure seamless operations in the absence of the Associate Director and will help to manage the daily responsibilities that are critical to our department’s functioning. This role will allow us to maintain high standards of service and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other relevant regulations.
Evaluates students’ documentation in order to advise and provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities. Assists students in securing accommodations in areas of registration, housing, parking, classroom/testing procedures, and placement test administration. Provides consultation to students regarding self-advocacy skills, academic policies, transitional concerns, and personal issues.
Coordinates the note taker program for Accessibility Services, instructing students on how to use the Note Taking Program and keeping track of the usage and cost for the accommodation.
Assists with testing in the Accommodate System including scheduling of tests for students with disabilities, responding to professor’s concerns and requests, and providing accommodations such as reading and scribing tests, and monitoring security cameras.
Provides academic support to students with disabilities including determining accommodations and creating success plans using the Accommodate System.
Collaborates with Accessibility Services staff to present workshops and classroom presentations.
Conducts intakes for students with disabilities and provides accommodation recommendations.
Maintains closed files, completes Disposed File forms when required by law and appropriately disposes of confidential information.
Coordinates the Workforce Recruitment Program including attending virtual informational meetings; contacting and presenting to qualified students about the program and scheduling interview appointments with the recruiter and the students.
Collects data and prepares reports as assigned.
Other Functions and Responsibilities: Assists with training new hires.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or General Studies (with focus on sociology, education or psychology); two or more years’ experience in academic support or student retention programs.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Counseling, Education or Higher Education; experience in academic support or student retention programs in a higher education setting; knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
