POSITION TITLE: PROGRAM ASSISTANT (part-time)
DEPARTMENT: Youth and Social Services
GENERAL DUTIES: This is responsible work involving assisting families and adults with accessing and utilizing programs in the Department of Youth and Social Services. Provides case management to clients involved in local and state assistance programs. Assists families within the application process of the Department of Youth and Social Services Youth Scholarship program. Performs a wide range of support functions for the Department of Youth and Social Services Holiday’s Assistance Programs and Summer Youth Employment Program.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs general office work to include but not limited to, filing, answering phones, and data entry. Maintains records, applications, and other documents utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel or other productivity software. Maintains confidential records on clients’ served. Collects data and prepares reports for local and State authorities. Performs other related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Director of Youth and Social Services or other supervisor(s) as designated.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Generally none, but may assign work to others as directed by the supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of social issues affecting youth and adult populations; Considerable ability to relate and establish rapport with youth, parents, and adults. Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors and the public. Good ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; considerable ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree in a human services related field, plus three (3) years’ experience as a caseworker, social services worker or outreach worker in a public or private sector social services agency, or any equivalent combination of education or experience substituting on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operators License.
