What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Navigator position at Youth Development, Inc.?
CAREER NAVIGATOR: Under the direct
supervision of the Program Manager. Develop and coordinate Integrated Education
Training (IET) projects in collaboration with training providers, employers,
and workforce development programs.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences field of study and one (1)
years’ experience in workforce development and/or a combination of education and/or
experience equal to five (5) years.
A demonstrated ability
to establish an effective working
relationship with staff,
post- secondary institutions, businesses, and other agencies.
Plan and implement effective program
procedures and recognize and assure a high degree
of quality and efficiency in program service
delivery.
Ability to exercise
judgement and discretion in interpreting department policy.
Must have good written and oral communication skills.
Must be able to use discretion in all facets of work-related situations.
Ability to perform
all work rapidly and accurately, meeting all deadlines when applicable.
JOB CHARACTERISTICS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This
is a professional position, which requires organizational and communication
skills, as well as judgment, tact, and diplomacy in contacts with YDI
employees, community residents, parents, and local government agencies. Strict adherence is required to all
regulations concerning confidentiality.
Good
general health. Background investigation
to include fingerprinting will be required.
Physical is required upon hire and may be required intermittently.
Frequent
travel is required. Must have valid
driver’s license and proof of satisfactory car insurance.
Youth
Development, Inc. is an at-will employer.
Employment is by mutual consent of the company and employee, and either
may terminate the relationship at any time with or without cause or advance
notice. This job is contingent upon
funding; however, availability of funding is not a guarantee of continued
employment, nor does it imply any specific term of employment.
EXAMPLES OF
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Not Inclusive):

· Research
local labor market information for demand and emerging occupations to guide and
inform appropriate IET projects.
· Initiate
Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with project partners to identify roles and
agreements.
· Identify
students for IET projects and complete enrollment/registration paperwork.
· Monitor
student progress while participating in the IET project and attend to any
needs.
· Generate
monthly reports of participant engagement, progress, and outcomes.
· Partner
with the WIOA Youth and Adult programs and the local workforce center for
employment opportunities and employer engagement.
· Prepare
a job board or resource book of available employment opportunities for
participants.
· Assist
students with applying for available jobs by completing applications and/or
updating resumes.
· Attending
job fairs to gather employment opportunities for students and develop
partnerships with employers.
· Counsels’
students, parents, and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success
in school.
· Develops
a variety of special programs (e.g., career day, financial aid workshops, etc.)
for the purpose of providing information to assist students in the successful
transition from high school to career, training and/or continuing education.
· Monitors
students' progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate
action for increasing student success.
· Prepares
applications for students (e.g., scholarships, college, financial aid, etc.)
for the purpose of ensuring completion of application processes within
designated time frames.
· Research
program eligibility requirements (e.g., financial aid, college eligibility,
etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date, accurate counsel to students.
· Other
job-related duties as assigned.
