ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Youth For Understanding USA (YFU) is running a 2 week program for 15 high school students from Germany, with a focus on Community Service. This is a grant-funded program, coordinated through YFU Germany. During their two-week stay in the US, the students engage in English Language classes, community service activities, and a few social and cultural activities. They are placed with volunteer host families, who invite the students to be a part of their family for these two weeks. The students make ever-lasting bonds with other students, their host families, the volunteers, and the employees and contractors who work with them.
The program runs from Saturday, October 25th to Friday, November 7th, 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of ESOL Teacher has two major parts: Pre-Program Class Preparation and Program Execution. The ESOL Teacher will plan and teach ESOL instruction classes for 15 German students based on their English level. Intended curriculum will be requested prior to session start and English classes should incorporate the themes of community service encountered by the students during their various activities. The final class should include final presentations by the students exhibiting what they’ve learned throughout the program.
CONTRACT OBJECTIVE
Create and deliver a meaningful English learning experience for German students in the US through careful planning to help them improve English skills with a focus on community service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serve as ESOL teacher during contracted term.
- Plan and deliver curriculum of ESOL classes based on students’ English levels.
- Deliver 6 sessions of English instruction, each session lasting for 3 hours, and the final presentation on the last day of program. Classes will be project-learning based and focused on practical application in a community setting.
- Make small assignments between classes if appropriate.
- Coordinate with YFU Program Coordinator and local Group Leader with class arrangements.
SCHEDULE FOR PERFORMANCE
Six classroom sessions run from 10/27/2025 to 11/7/2025. Classes are on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, unless otherwise noted in work order. Each session is 3 hours in length and begins at 9AM unless otherwise noted.
Preparation time is at the contractor’s discretion.
PAYMENT SCHEDULE
Payment will be $1200 total for the two weeks and will be provided in a lump sum after the conclusion of the program and all reports are submitted. Contractors will need to sign the legal contract with YFU, complete a background check, as well as submit a completed W-9 form as provided by YFU USA.
