Youth Services Network's Homeless Shelter is hiring for a 3rd shift position part-time position! We are looking for a qualified candidate for the position of Homeless Youth Staff.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Homeless Youth Staff ensure the overall safety of shelter residents, document daily activities and assist the residents in learning life skills.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The Homeless Youth Staff reports to the Shelter Supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Constant positive interaction with parents and children.
- Assist residents in gaining valuable life skills through being a positive role model.
- Daily supervision of residents and maintenance of shelter.
- Attend mandatory shelter staff and all agency meetings, in-services and trainings.
- Communicating with other shifts by entries in staff logbook.
- Cook meals and/or assist residents in cooking meals according to shift.
- Complete nutrition assessments on residents and document special dietary needs in client files. Make special dietary needs available to clients and/or children.
- Facilitate parenting life skills with residents.
- Maintain food storage.
- Dispense medications per medication protocol.
- Ensure cleanliness of the shelter per shelter protocol.
- Check residents’ rooms for cleanliness and monitor completion of chores.
- Transport residents to appointments as requested.
- Assist with donations and laundry pick-up/drop off.
- Complete paperwork including daily resident casenotes, intakes, exits, and donations.
- Assist with childcare as needed.
- Answer telephone, take messages, and monitor door, assuring confidentiality.
- Assist Phase II residents (on 3rd floor) as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalency is required.
- Work experience or related experience with youth.
- Valid driver’s license—required
- Must be 21 years or older
- Pass a DCFS background check.
- Pass a Physical and TB test.
- CPR/First Aid Certified.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- The physical ability to travel to assigned locations, stand, stoop, bend, reach, pull, push, lift, grasp, climb, talk, see, hear and perform basic and light home maintenance activities, and operate office equipment.
- The physical ability to move and lift light objects up to 30 pounds such as mail, supplies, files, and equipment.
- The ability to operate office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements.
- The ability to remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.
