Job Summary: The Peer Mental Health Specialist is responsible for the development of a Peer mental health network for youth/ young adults. This position will outreach and coordinate with existing mental health and recovery services and develop other necessary strength-based supports needed to promote successful recovery. This Peer Specialist will provide mental health support to youth and young adults in northern panhandle counties of West Virginia.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research other successful youth peer mental health networks.
- Outreach to mental health networks to learn about supports necessary to promote successful recovery.
- Outreach to local peer recovery providers to coordinate efforts.
- Become a certified Recovery Coach.
- Participate in local Recovery Coach Training and promote certification process.
- Public speaking engagements to promote awareness and accessibility of mental health services.
- Provide mental health support using evidence-based Programs.
- Assist with tracking and reporting performance measures.
- Complete necessary documentation and grant reporting.
- Assist with transportation to improve accessibility of mental health services.
- Assist with applications for private funding to support recovery efforts.
- Attend necessary treatment team and community meetings.
- Assist consumers in accessing benefits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge and experience of adults with mental health diagnosis
- Excellent time management and organizing skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
- Experience working with the recovery community
- Experience in program development
- Ability to work under pressure and multitask
- Proficient and accurate documentation
- Ability to use Adobe and Microsoft software
Education and Experience:
- Requires Highschool Diploma/G.E.D or equivalent;
- Prefers Associate Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related human services field.
- Must have lived experience. Must be able to obtain Peer Recovery Coach Certification.
- Must have valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance as required by law
