YSS is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, fun, compassionate Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES) Shift Leader!
The CWES Shift Leader (Shift Leader) is responsible for leading the Emergency Services Specialists and directing the activities during each shift. The Shift Leader provides supervision and care for clients while maintaining an atmosphere of safety and respect. The Shift Leader provides a structured daily living routine, ensure client’s basic needs are being met, and serving as the primary staff for assigned clients and liaison for parents/guardians. Shift Leaders are responsible for completing client intakes and incident reports and for training other direct care staff in the completion of these duties. They are also responsible for facilitating group sessions and recreation. Shift Leaders will ensure all daily documentation (intakes/discharges, all client logs, incident reports, drills, etc.) is completed prior to the end of each worked shift. Responsibilities include:
- Leading staff members (PT and FT ESSs) in difficult decision making processes including but not limited to: client escalations, law enforcement accessing, off-site activity client participation, client consequences, etc.
- Leading shift planning for each shift including delegating client supervision duties, group facilitation, med dosing and counting, etc.
- Mentoring and training new employees on shift.
- Serving as the liaison for between floor staff and on call staff during crises or emergencies.
- Providing direct supervision of the clients, ensuring their presence and safety; responsible for knowing whereabouts and activities of clients at all times when supervising.
- Providing crisis interventions as needed.
- Documenting client behavior and other relevant/required information for each shift in daily Client Logs.
- Providing/obtaining immediate medical care when emergencies occur.
- Receiving calls for referral and placement
- Maintaining working knowledge of applicable Community Resources

MUST HAVES - Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in human services or similar field
- One year of related experience.
- Travel, including transporting clients, is required for this position. For YSS insurance purposes, you must:
- be 21 years of age,
- have a valid, state-issued, driver's license,
- have a clean driving record, and
- have adequate insurance coverage per YSS policy.
SHOULD HAVES - Preferred Qualifications
- Experience directing/monitoring the work of others.
- Professional or personal experience with shelter facilities.
- Understands the needs of young people experiencing housing instability or crisis.
- Ability to communicate, verbally and non-verbally, with excellent observational, listening, speaking, and writing skills.
- Ability to collaborate and able to work effectively with others regardless of backgrounds, identities, and status.

YSS’s Hiring Process

- YSS conducts a Single Contact Repository (SING) background check on final candidates. This reviews Iowa Criminal History, the Sex Offender Registry, and the Abuse Registry for Child Abuse and Dependent Adult Abuse
- YSS requires a clean driving record for roles transporting clients. Verification is done in the issue state of the individual’s current license.
- If applicable, Professional License information is verified through the issuing agency.
6. Offer – Selected applicants will receive a formal offer of employment in the Paycom system.
7. New Hire Meeting - The offer email provides details. You must have this meeting before you can begin work.
