YSS is seeking a skilled and dedicated Facilities Technician to help maintain our facilities, ensuring safe, functional, and welcoming spaces across all our locations. YSS is a mission-driven organization dedicated to creating hope and opportunity for youth and families.
Position Overview:
The Facilities Technician will play a critical role in the day-to-day maintenance and repair of YSS facilities, furnishings, and equipment. Working closely with the Facilities Director and staff, this individual will respond to approved work orders, perform preventative maintenance, and coordinate tasks with contractors and team members to ensure the efficient operation of YSS properties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Open and close office buildings as assigned.
- Meet daily with the Facilities Director and team to plan and coordinate activities.
- Utilize work order ticketing and facility management systems for task management.
- Provide maintenance and repair services to YSS outreach operations and remote locations.
- Operate power equipment and tools, as well as standard office equipment (e.g., phones, computers, copiers).
- Conduct routine maintenance of assigned buildings and parking lots.
- Support preventive maintenance and seasonal readiness programs across all locations.
- Respond to emergency calls during evenings, weekends, and holidays, as assigned by the Facilities Director.
- Assist the Director in preparing quarterly building reports.
- Maintain and update inventory of equipment, discarding non-repairable items, and reporting inventory changes to the Director.
- Purchase approved supplies and materials, ensuring timely submission of receipts and forms.
- Coordinate and supervise vendors, contractors, and staff as directed.
- Assist with bid processes, including collecting bids, meeting vendors, touring locations, and providing relevant background information.
- Review and update procedure manuals as requested by the Director.
- Assist with city and state inspections to ensure compliance.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Two years trade experience to include carpentry, construction, facility repairs and maintenance, and custodial.
• Multiple other trade experience, including HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.
• Ability to perform all aspects of maintenance and preventative maintenance.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Valid Iowa driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
• High School Diploma/equivalent.
• Customer focused and able to coordinate / collaborate with others.
• Ability to use critical thinking skills to problems solve.
• Ability to manage resources effectively
