Role and Responsibilities
The Substance Abuse Counselor I/II will provide counseling and therapy services to individuals struggling with substance abuse issues and work collaboratively with other professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to clients to assess their substance abuse problems and develop effective treatment plans.
- Collaborate with other professionals to provide comprehensive care to clients, including medical professionals, social workers, and law enforcement officials.
- Develop and implement education and training programs to help clients understand the risks associated with substance abuse and how to prevent relapse.
- Conduct outreach and engagement activities to connect with clients in their communities and provide support and resources to help them achieve their goals.
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency response services to clients who are experiencing a mental health or substance abuse crisis.
- Document client progress and outcomes in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A minimum of two years of experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor, or an Associate's degree with major coursework in substance abuse, social services, behavioral sciences, chemical dependency, or a field related to the work, and one year of experience.
- Must register for certification as an Alcohol & Drug Counselor within six months of hire.
- Ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten days of employment and maintain throughout employment.
- First aid and CPR certifications.
- Pass a thorough background investigation, including Live Scan fingerprinting and DMV printout prior of hire.
