Job Description
Position: Parent - Child Swim Instructor
Classification: Non-exempt, part-time
Reports to: Aquatics Director
Position Summary: A parent-child swim instructor teaches the parent-baby and parent-toddler swim programs at the YWCA pool following YWCA program policies, American Red Cross program progressions, and the Welcome to Water curriculum.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience working with babies and toddlers;
- Comfort and experience in and around the water;
- Availability on weekday mornings and/or Saturday mornings;
- Previous experience as a swim instructor, preferred
- Ability to pass the Water Safety Instructor Certification;
- Standing for periods of time, moving around on deck and in the pool, lifting students, and pool equipment are all expected parts of the job; and
- Must be 18 years old or older.
- Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
- Guide and educate groups of caretakers, babies, and toddlers through what could be their first educational activity as a duo;
- Put your leadership and customer service skills to work and encourage them to continue to swim with us by celebrating their progress in the pool;
- Become proficient in your swim instructor role through thoughtful hands-on training with the YWCA Lower Cape Fear Aquatics Program, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, and Welcome to Water;
- Work a set schedule with a variety of shifts including weekends;
- Work alongside the facility safety team to follow all safety standards keeping children, families, and staff's well-being top of mind; and
- Standing for periods of time, moving around on deck and in the pool, lifting students and pool equipment are all expected parts of the job.
