Position Summary: Provide a safe and engaging educational setting for students in the Early Childhood Education &/or NC Pre-K environment (classroom, outdoor play area, and field trips). Develop individual goals for children, provide on-going assessment on progress and facilitate transition into other pre-school and kindergarten settings. Support parents in their role as primary caretakers and educators of their children and encourage their involvement in all aspects of the program. Maintain on-going contact with families and work with all other service providers (health, nutrition, family services, mental health, special services, parent education and resource/referral) to integrate services into the family setting. Ensure the program is meeting goals of excellence set by the Director of Early Childhood Education.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Education:
- NC Early Childhood Credentials 6 SH in Early childhood coursework or willing to obtain
- Infant/Toddler Certificate; Preschool Certificate: Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
- Requirements:
- Minimum 6 months experience or educational equivalency
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- CRC Background check letter
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Models positive behavior for children according to the culture and mission of the YWCA, including non-violent speech and action and respect for all.
- Works together with Co-Teacher to produce the curriculum for each day and to provide a schedule for the class ensuring that curriculum guidelines and requirements established by the center are met.
- Participates actively and positively in the YWCA's initiatives toward reducing childhood obesity; acts as a role model and provides positive guidance to children toward trying new foods, appropriate table manners, and the enjoyment of exercise.
- Stays up-to-date on and implements rules and regulations regarding health, safety, and cleanliness for a five-star- rated child care center and ensures that all regulations are followed by all adults in the assigned classroom.
- Stays up-to-date on the latest theories and best practices for promoting language, cognitive, social and emotional, and physical development for children in the assigned classroom.
- Works together with the Co-Teacher to ensure that administrative tasks are accomplished each day.
- Will be required to maintain and keep a clean and sanitize working environment (classroom/bathroom). This includes wiping off and sanitizing the tables and chairs, spraying toys at the end of the day moping as needed and prepping the room for the next day.
- Works with the Co-Teacher to direct volunteers in the classroom ensuring compliance with all regulations and also ensuring a quality experience for the volunteer. Reports any difficulty with volunteers to the Director.
- Interacts appropriately with parents when present in the classroom; ensures that parents are informed of children's daily activities, health concerns, eating habits, and other areas of interest to the family. Takes note of parents' information on the child and communicates any health or wellness concerns to the Director of Early Childhood Education.
Written Documentation:
- Works as part of a team to maintain accurate written/electronic records, including assessments, special education documentation, screening instruments, anecdotal observations, documents for transition to public school and parent/teacher conference and other required forms.
Collaborative Service:
- Works as part of a team of two teachers in the assigned classroom. May be required to assume the role of lead teachers to facilitate leadership and responsibility in each classroom.
- Assume other duties as assigned by Director of Early Childhood Education or Program Coordinators.
- Participate in regularly scheduled YWCA team meetings.
- Assists with conducting regular assessments, and/or conferences for purposes of assessment and support, and to share information on parenting, educational strategies, and classroom progress.
- Works with Co-Teacher to perform two parent/teacher conferences yearly. (Home visits may be required for EHS and NC PreK programs)
Curriculum Development:
- Works as part of a team to assess individual and group needs, attending to special needs, specific interests, strengths and concerns.
- Helps develop balanced daily and weekly plans/curriculum, which are developmentally appropriate, and address each child's specific strengths and needs.
- Assists with gathering classroom materials and supplies to support daily plans; change materials in learning centers as needed.
YWCA Administration:
- Attends training and meetings assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Education and YWCA administration.
- Assumes other responsibilities appropriate for the position as requested by the YWCA administration.
- Will work with a culturally and economically diverse population of YWCA members, participants, and staff members.
Working Conditions:
- Works in direct proximity with children and will be exposed to childhood illnesses.
- Will spend a part of each day supervising and participating in outdoor play at all times of the year.
- Routine daily cleaning of the classroom/bathroom as needed.
Physical Demands:
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: will stand for long periods of time; may occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects or boxes; will be expected to participate in the demands required when working with children under the age of 6 such as bending, lifting, diapering, floor play, leading fitness activities.
