Description

YWCA Tulsa is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Supervising Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for mentorship, training and technical assistance for a team of legal representatives, legal assistants, interns and volunteers; providing direct legal representation, coordinating workshops and community education; and representing YWCA Tulsa in community initiatives. 

Requirements

Casework Oversight

  • Supervise and support DOJ accredited representatives. Provide technical assistance to resolve complex case issues and conduct technical review of cases in a timely manner for quality control and accuracy. 
  • Expand Access to Legal Services: Work with the manager and director to develop departmental capacity to maximize output, assist with workshops and group processing events, and assist with volunteers and interns. 
  • Expand Access to Legal Services: Work with the manager and director to make recommendations for case selection criteria and develop departmental capacity for new cases to maximize output, develop, coordinate, and oversee workshops and group processing events, monitor trends and promote modifications to processes to expand capacity. 
  • Training and Learning: Stay apprised of immigration law developments and assist manager in updating and training legal team. Develop screening tools and guides for staff on new case developments. Update shared legal resources. Support a culture of learning and self-growth. 
  • Support attorneys and accredited immigration representatives with maintaining CLE requirements by identifying training opportunities within the program budget. Build a network of relationships and connections outside the organization to inform program growth and capacity building.  

 Direct Representation:

  • Maintain a caseload and provide direct legal representation to clients in obtaining immigration status or benefits, with a focus on more complex immigration cases including Afghan program cases, Refugee and Cuban arrival cases any other necessary cases. . Represent clients at USCIS interviews in Oklahoma City as needed. 
  • Administrative Tasks: Filing, copying, data entry, preparing mailings, and opening and closing cases for personal case load.  Administrative Tasks: Working with director and manager to optimize use of case management software and to ensure compliance and proper procedures being used by entire legal team. 
  • Community Education and Partnerships: Conduct know your rights and community education presentations, produce legal education materials, and collaborate with community partners to promote YWCA services and expand access to legal information. Represent YWCA Tulsa at immigration related meetings, forums and events in the community. 
  • Collaborates with other YWCA Tulsa programs as appropriate to ensure integrated, client centered service. 
  • Complies with all YWCA policies and procedures.  

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Good organization skills and ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent decision-making skills. 
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office—Word, Excel, Outlook) and other immigration program and/or court databases. 
  • Must be an advocate for the mission, values and goals of the YWCA Tulsa. 
  • Work effectively with all employees and members of all races, religions, sexes, national origins, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions; and without regard to disability status, genetic information, marital status, or status as a covered veteran. 
  • Work on skills that can help communicate her/his point to an audience belonging to a completely different identity and/or background. These differences can be identity-based, geographical, ethical, political, or historical. 
  • Strong commitment to learning, growth, and continuous improvement. 
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and insurance verification or ability to obtain 

Education/Experience 

  •  J. D. Law Degree with attorney license in any of the 50 states (required); Oklahoma law license (preferred). 
  • Relevant immigration law experience required. Experience with family-based immigration, adjustment of status, waivers of inadmissibility, naturalization and other affirmative applications preferred. 
  • Nonprofit Program management experience preferred. 
  • Bilingual in English and a second language preferred.
