The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is looking to hire for a seasonal full time Summer Camp Art Activity Specialist at Camp Funkist in White Plains and Peekskill.

Job Summary

The Art Activity Specialist plans, conducts, and evaluates a set of activities that are specific components of hourly respite and/or programs instruction or therapy sessions at YWCA Summer Day Camp.

The Specialist must have enthusiasm, creativity, imagination, and a strong desire/ability to collaborate with other teachers and summer staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrated expertise in activity modality design and implementation strategies that meet the needs of a diverse consumer base of individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Demonstrated success in diverse artistic mediums including paint, watercolor, weaving, paper folding, ceramics, Papier Mache, molding, string, and jewelry crafts.
• Create additional art projects that are fun and engaging.
• Demonstrates cooperative professional attitudes and flexibility in response to job requirements.
• Provide support to the Director whenever necessary or possible.
• Create and manage attendance compliance, efficacy evaluations, program activity schedules, acquisition and storage of equipment and materials.
• Attend all required staff trainings and meetings.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

Education: BA required.

Experience: Demonstrated experience in providing recreation/respite/summer camp activities or summer camp training. Must participate and successfully complete counselor orientation and/or training prior to working with campers.

Licensing and/or Certifications: Mandated Reporter for abuse, neglect, or exploitation certification.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Must exhibit emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity. Enjoyment of the outdoors.
• Demonstrated expertise in activity modality design and implementation strategies.
• Ability to work as a team member with other counselors and adult staff members.
• Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and willing to learn.

• Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
• Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
• Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities.
• Function in a workplace that is usually moderately noisy but that can be very noisy at times.
