The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is looking to hire for seasonal full time Summer Camp Counselors at Camp Funkist in White Plains and Peekskill.
Job Summary
Supervision of campers with attention to all of the following: program, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character and skill development. Counselors will at all times be under the direct supervision and guidance of the Program Director, Assistant Director, or another professional designee.
Key Responsibilities
- Attends all training meetings as assigned
- Arrives on Time
- Observes and learns camp procedures through working with experienced Head and Senior Counselors
- Acts as a positive role model for children
- Appropriately interacts with campers and helps with activities to enhance their camp experience
- Assists in maintaining a safe environment for students, in coordination with the Head and Senior Counselors
- Sets a good example for staff and campers in all areas, including cleanliness, clean-up, rules, and sportsmanship
- Cleans assigned areas
- Participates in all camp-wide special events and ending session special events
- Demonstrates cooperative professional attitudes and flexibility in response to job requirements
- Provides support for the Head Counselor and Senior Counselor whenever necessary or possible
- Be concerned for the social adjustment of EACH camper.
- Promote camper participation in ALL activities.
- Exhibit personal habits, health, dress, speech, and relationships with other staff that serve as a positive model to campers.
Qualifications
Education
- Completion of at least junior year of high school.
Experience:
- Must participate and successfully complete counselor orientation and/or training prior to working with campers. Must exhibit emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity. Enjoyment of the outdoors.
Licensing and/or Certifications: n/a.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work as a team member with other counselors and adult staff members.
- Experience in working with children in a group setting.
- Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient and willing to learn.
Compensation: $2,800.00 stipend for 6 weeks
